Creating a publication was a dream of mine since my first day on Medium. I had some ideas on what I wanted to explore, but life happened and I couldn’t give shape to my vision.

I wanted to make a place where people can share lessons from their life that they had to unlearn. Either from family, society, friends, etc. I want to learn and teach along the way and grow as a person, so I wanted to share my vision with others. And then Unlearn (with the U symbolizing U-turn) was created.

I created it and then I noticed some more benefits that self-publishing on its own doesn't offer.

When you publish in your own publication, you are self-publishing of course.

But that's not the end.

Today, I will show you why you should create your own publication, even if you end up being the only writer.

If you decide to have more than you in there, you will unlock some extra benefits as well.

Let’s look at some advantages.

And not because you will write only.

Being your own boss means that you will want to present to readers the best quality available.

You want to make your publication big and to achieve that you’ll need to have a high editorial status.

But being the boss of others as well will make you a true master at crafting a story.

You will have to review drafts, add comments, make notices on what’s wrong.

These things will make you better in time. You’ll gain the experience needed to craft your own stories based on stories from your “employees”.

I have 3 writers at my disposal for now and wait for them to craft their first piece.
